I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. At age 7 on a family ski trip to Summit County, Colorado, I determined to make Colorado my home. The mountains are a place of beauty and spirituality that infects the people that live here. People that play in the mountains get it.
Skiing has always been my passion and central feature in my life. I ski raced in high school and at Colorado State University where I graduated in 1990. Prior to attending law school, I lived in Winter Park and Grand Lake for a year. Returning to Chicago for law school, I attended the John Marshall Law School, concentrated my studies on advanced trial advocacy and tort (injury) law, graduating in 1994. Prior to focusing exclusively on personal injury law, my experience includes volunteering for Colorado Rural Legal Services in Montrose, the Colorado Aids Project, consumer law, family law, criminal defense, and Alternative Defense Counsel for juveniles in Denver.
My career has always concentrated on trial practice and I’ve litigated hundreds of cases and achieved 7 figure verdicts and settlements. The sole focus of my career has been to seek justice for people suffering from personal injuries as the result of someone else’s negligence. I love helping people. The hallmark of the Law Office of D.J. Banovitz, is the total commitment to professionalism, quality, and personalized care of your injury case. Earlier in my career I worked for big law firms – the kind you see on TV or a billboard. This has greatly affected how I treat my clients. Personalized care and values are not a sales pitch. It is the rule. Clients deal directly with me and not a caseworker, paralegal, pre-litigation manager or associate attorney overloaded with work and with no personal knowledge of the client and their case. Undertaking representation of people whose life or family member’s life has been altered by the carelessness of another is a sacred obligation.
I enjoy a good fight. Standing up to huge insurance companies (typically the real defendants refusing responsibility in injury cases) makes me come alive. My clients know that they have a true ally in this fight.
My daughter Lilly is my greatest joy. She is an avid skier and participates on the Vail Devo team. When not on the slopes I actively participate in road biking, mountain biking, hiking and camping. I love all that Colorado has to offer and intimately understand how an injury can dramatically alter someone’s ability to enjoy life, work and being a whole person.
I’ve dedicated my professional life to helping those most in need and am a proud and active member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. If you, a loved one or friend has a potential injury claim and have questions I invite you to call me at (303) 300-5060 or email me – dj@theskilawyer.com. I guarantee you’ll get honest answers to your most difficult questions.
